On 16th November 2010 the International Conference “Integrated Delta Approach” took place in Lisbon, the second dissemination milestone and partners’ feedback of the INTERREG IVC proposal. Among the 20 problems identified for the Delta regions, the Unbalanced Delta approach was the discussion theme of this conference. Several contributions were presented in order to promote a better integrated delta approach and, in this way, to influence delta and estuary stakeholders concerning a sustainable governance of these regions. The presentations highlight the complexity that underlies the purpose of the conference theme, and the importance of trying to figure out solutions that can be tested and adapted to other scenarios. The key question is how to combine economic and environmental policies, which requires a balanced relationship between three layers: human settlement layer, natural territory layer and infrastructural network.
